SHALE-GAS SEPARATOR

About

Unique to Iron Horse, our Shale-Gas Separator is a state-of-the-art solution for air drilling in the Marcellus, Utica and similar formations. Guaranteed to be the safest and most effective method of air drilling, its unmatched functionality allows for faster-digging rates and a significant reduction of solidification material needed. By maintaining a constant “liquid seal” in the separator, air and gas are removed through the vent line and out through the flare stack. This allows only water and cuttings to be discharged from the separator through the six-inch flow line to the possum belly of the primary shale shakers, then onto the drying shakers.

Product Features

  • A feed pump that provides water to a series of six nozzles that provide dust kill, eliminate the chance of packing off and act as a fluid venturi to assist in the suspension of solids while pumping.
  • A VFD-driven discharge pump automatically adjusts the speed of the pump to assure a constant liquid seal.

Safety Features

  • Manual override and quick disconnects reduce risk in cases of emergency.
  • Utilizes Gantry System Performance Maintenance to minimize risk and downtime.

HOW IT WORKS

Outperforms all competition in air-drilling applications

Liquid Seal:

  • Liquid seal inside the separator prevents any gas, air, mud or cuttings from exiting the separator into the backyard
  • Eliminates any chance of flash fire in the backyard
  • All air and gas are forced out of the top of the separator through the vent line and out the flare stack
  • Keeps containment and backyard clean

Shale Shake Discharge:

  • Separator discharges all fluids and cutting over rig shale shakers and drying shakers
  • Substantial savings in solidification costs
  • Substantial savings in haul-off trucking
  • Savings of disposal fees at dump sites
  • Smaller environmental footprint at dump sites

The Feed Pump:

When air drilling operations start, our vessel is already running. A pump feeds water from the rig pits to the system and a pump discharges water from the system back to the rig shakers. The pump feeding the system provides water to a series of six nozzles that:

  • Provide dust kill
  • Create a hydro cyclone within the bottom of the vessel, eliminating the chance of packing off.
  • Act as fluid venturi to assist in the suspension of solids while pumping.

The Discharge Pump:

The VFD-driven discharge pump automatically adjusts the speed of the pump to assure a constant liquid seal.
